Sometimes working with blendables can be tricky so I’m going to share with you some simple steps I go thru when working with blendables. There are lots of variables involved when creating the perfect blend for your page. Photo colors, darkness, background papers among others are all variables that can affect how well a blend works.

Here are 4 simple steps I used on my Time layout

cp1

Step One: Place Blendable [I used Dictionary Blendables: Everyday No. 1] and set to Linear Blend Mode

cp2

Step Two: With the Blendable Element layer active, got to Image>Adjustments>Levels and slide the white arrow on the far right towards the left to brighten the whites in the blendable

Note: which way you move the sliders will depend on what you are blending with [paper color, photo etc]

cp3

Step Three: This made the blendable more yellow then I wanted. With the Blendable Element layer active, got to Image>Adjustments>Hue/Saturation and move the Saturation slider to the left desaturating the blendable.

Note: which way you move the sliders will depend on what you are blending with [paper color, photo etc]

cp4

Step Four: To take it even further and achieve an effect where I’m not seeing the page but simply the text from the dictionary, I replaced the color in the background of the blendable. Go to Image>Adjustments>Replace Color and use the eyedropper to click on the background color. Then, slide the lightness slider to the right until the desired look is achieved.

Note: which way you move the sliders will depend on what you are blending with [paper color, photo etc]

And, simple as that, you’re done!
I hope those little tips help lead you on a path to exploring your creativity further!
